Spadina Station

Why "Spadina Station"?

It's all about location, location, location.

Marlena, Jay and Stephen met while singing together in the Miles Nadal JCC Choir, a vibrant community choir that rehearses and performs across the street from Spadina subway station in downtown Toronto.

Marlena, who has headed a cappella quartets in the past, heard real singing chops in Jay and Stephen. In 2013, they were joined by Jane Miller, an exciting singer, actor, songwriter and arranger, who has delighted audiences in previous groups, and in a cappella musicals that she created. By adding equal amounts of talent, harmony, and passion, an exciting new singing group was born.

As luck would have it, Harriet Wichin, the inspirational music director of the JCC, had just set a goal for the community centre to be an incubator of a cappella groups. She offered our fledgling group free rehearsal space at the centre, and our group developed our exciting a cappella sound there.

So we simply had to call ourselves Spadina Station.

We have already performed all over Toronto. And if you hang out at the corner of Bloor and Spadina, you may just hear us singing on the street corner or perhaps doing the odd flash performance in Spadina station!
